Every dancer arrives with a unique combination of experience, training, strengths, and developmental readiness. Our placement process helps us recommend the class level where your dancer will be appropriately challenged, supported, and positioned for meaningful progress.
Does My Dancer Need a Placement Evaluation?
NEW OR BEGINNING DANCERS
No Evaluation Needed
For dancers beginning their ballet training, placement is generally based on age and developmental readiness. Families may register directly for the appropriate introductory program.
DANCERS WITH PREVIOUS TRAINING
Placement Evaluation Recommended
Dancers transferring from another studio or returning with previous ballet experience should complete a placement evaluation before registering for a leveled ballet class.
This allows our faculty to consider technique, vocabulary, strength, alignment, musicality, and overall readiness when recommending the appropriate level.

Your dancer will participate in a ballet placement evaluation with an En Pointe faculty member.

We'll consider your dancer's prior training, technical foundation, and developmental readiness.

You'll receive a recommended En Pointe level and can move forward with registration.
Preparing for your Evaluation

A leotard, tights, and ballet shoes are preferred. Dancers transferring from another studio may wear their current studio attire. Hair should be secured neatly away from the face.

Yes, if your dancer has previous pointe experience or is seeking placement into a pointe class. Pointe readiness and placement will be assessed when appropriate.

Placement evaluations are approximately 60 minutes, allowing our faculty time to observe your dancer’s technique, movement quality, musicality, and overall readiness for the appropriate En Pointe level.

Yes. Placement evaluations are $25. When your dancer enrolls at En Pointe Performing Arts, the full $25 evaluation fee will be credited toward registration.

No. This is not an audition, and dancers do not need to prepare a variation or combination in advance. The evaluation is designed to give our faculty an opportunity to see your dancer move naturally through age- and level-appropriate ballet exercises.

Placement evaluations may be conducted individually or in a small group with dancers of similar age and training experience. This allows our faculty to create an evaluation environment appropriate for each dancer.

Following the evaluation, families will receive an En Pointe level recommendation and guidance on the appropriate classes for their dancer.

Dancers who require placement should complete their evaluation before registering for a leveled Conservatory class. New and beginning dancers generally do not require an evaluation and may register directly for their age-appropriate program.
